A Realised Dream
The Temple of Muses of Sárospatak
The Temple
of Muses is now an exhibition hall and an art school, otherwise,
a real temple for all kinds of arts, as it was formulated by
István Rácz, the founder and initator of the museum.
The buildeing had been a trinitarian monastrey, which was built
in the 17th century and its history is closely connected with
the history of the Sárospatak castle, the home of the Rákóczi
family. After the order had been dissolved, the building had
had several functions and owners, until 1945 when it was nationalised,
transformed into a hotel and restaurant and finally, today it
hosts wonderful exhibitions and events, reopened on the 3rd
of April, 2003. The first exhibition was the periodical gallery
of János Kass, who is a Kossuth Prize winner graphic artist.
This exhibition opened on the 23rd of May, 2003.
Nowadays it hosts artistical events, concerts, and scientific
conferences.
